A Harlem man in the middle of a divorce decapitated his wife, slit their 5-year-old daughter’s throat then hanged himself, police sources said Thursday.
Cops responded to a 911 call at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday from the wife’s brother, who was worried because he had not been able to reach her, sources said.
Police forced the door of the apartment in a four-story brownstone on West 121st St. near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. and were faced with unimaginable horror.
The 42-year-old wife was found laying on the bathroom floor decapitated, her head in her lap, sources said.
Their young daughter was discovered in her bedroom, with a cut so deep to her throat she was partially decapitated, sources said. Her father was hanging from a rope tied to her bedroom door.
The couple were going through a divorce and had a court date Wednesday hours before the bodies were discovered, sources said.
A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was taken into evidence from the bedroom, sources said. The victims’ names were not immediately released because their relatives had not been notified.
“He’s a very, very nice guy,” shocked neighbor Patricia Brodin, 40, said of the husband.
“I used to see him all the time taking his daughter to school. Why did he snap like this?”
“Everybody knows him on this block,” she added. “He was a really good guy. I’m really stunned. I don’t know what to say. He always minded his business . . . He was a non-violent guy.”
In 2016, the wife was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband because he was threatening and harassing her, sources said. But cops had never been called to the home for domestic disturbances.
